How our Mentor Training Programme works

What is Break the Wall?

Break the Wall programme is designed to train and empower professionals in the creative industries to mentor young creatives from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. This programme specifically focuses on creating bridges between experienced professionals in the creative industries and aspiring individuals aged 16-25 who may face barriers accessing opportunities within these fields.

What will mentors will learn?

Our programme facilitates structured mentoring relationships where mentors provide guidance, support, and industry insights to mentees over 16 weeks. Mentors receive 8 hours of training on effective mentoring techniques, inclusive practices, and tools to help support their mentees effectively.

It aims to dismantle the barriers that prevent talented individuals from entering and thriving in the creative sector. By participating, mentors contribute to a more diverse and inclusive industry by sharing their experiences and expertise.

What does mentoring involve?

Mentors on the Break the Wall are paired with mentees based on shared interests, goals, and backgrounds. The mentoring relationship is tailored to the specific needs of the mentees, whether that involves skill development, industry knowledge, or professional networking.

common Questions

  • Our mentoring programmes are great for mid-to-senior level talent looking to develop and evolve their management, leadership and DE&I knowledge. You don’t already need to be a leader or manager or be in a creative role to mentor.

The variety of roles in our mentoring community is huge. We’ve worked with art directors, journalists, account managers, event organisers, producers, strategists and even lawyers.

  • Our mentoring programmes are training courses, and designed to provide impact for both mentees and mentors taking part.

There is a small cost for mentors enrolling on our programmes, which is often covered by employers. We are happy to talk with your HR teams about this.

These costs cover training, programme events and a dedicated programme manager, and ensure the programmes are free for our mentees.

Complete the form below for more information on the course and costs.

  • Our next cohort begins in April 2025. We are asking mentors to confirm their place by the 26th of February to ensure we have time to find and match mentees.

  • Our programmes are primarily for mentors who are based in the UK. This is because of the nuances of socioeconomic diversity and class, and our focus on building networks for our mentees.

We operate across the UK, and training is hybrid to enable mentors to join from across the country. Some programmes will have in-person elements, but get in touch to understand how these work.

For this programme, in person events will take place at our offices in London Victoria.
