Development Manager

About The Arts Foundation
The Arts Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to supporting individual artists and creatives across the UK. Through its annual programme, the Arts Foundation Futures Awards, the charity provides unconditional financial fellowships to help artists at pivotal moments in their careers. Since its founding in 1993, the Foundation has awarded over £2 million to promising artists, enabling them to experiment freely and realise their full potential. Past Fellows include celebrated pioneers such as Wayne McGregor, Ali Smith, and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye.
About the Role
The Foundation is seeking an energetic and experienced Development Manager to join its small, high-impact team. This central role involves working closely with the Director to expand fundraising activities and produce high-quality events that support the charity’s mission. The ideal candidate combines exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with meticulous project management.
Key Responsibilities
Prospect Research & Pipeline Management: Identify new supporters (trusts, corporate sponsors, and donors) and maintain a live pipeline of funding opportunities.
Proposal Writing & Fundraising: Lead the development of high-quality tailored proposals, pitch presentations, and compelling fundraising collateral.
Stewardship: Build and maintain professional relationships with funders and donors, ensuring high-quality impact reporting and recognition.
Event Management: Plan and deliver cultivation gatherings, ambitious fundraising events (such as auctions and dinners), and the annual Awards Ceremony.
Strategy & Administration: Oversee the development of a CRM system, manage a new donation portal, and design a new legacy giving programme.
Person Specification
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in fundraising, partnerships, or event management, ideally within the arts or charity sector.
Communication: Exceptional written skills for crafting persuasive proposals and confident verbal skills for presenting to senior stakeholders.
Project Management: Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously with high attention to detail.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Google Workspace and experience using CRM systems.
Personal Style: A proactive, self-sufficient, and collaborative team member who is enthusiastic about supporting artists.
Role Details
Term: 22-month fixed-term (June 2026 – April 2028), with possible extension.
Contract Type: PAYE or Freelance.
Hours: 0.6 FTE (3 days per week).
Salary Band: £30,000–£35,000 FTE, pro rata.
Location: Hybrid (minimum one day per week in a London office and remote).
Benefits: 28 days annual leave (inc. bank holidays) and NEST workplace pension.

This is a flexible placement, and can run for one or two weeks, and your daily travel and lunch expenses will be covered.

Our work experience scheme has been in place since our agency began, over 10 years ago, helping talent get a taste of what it is like to work in a consumer PR agency and see if it is for them. Over the years, our scheme has welcomed talent who have progressed onto our internship scheme and into some of our longest standing employees.
During your work experience at Aduro, you will have the opportunity to support the work which goes into active campaigns across PR, Influencer and social, delving into the brilliant and reliable work we do and gain hands-on experience within our broad client portfolio. This might be through sitting in on planning meetings, engaging in the behind the scenes of securing stellar coverage, working on elements which build a successful influencer campaign, and learning what makes our social team’s work scroll stopping.
In comparison to our two-month internship scheme, this is a one or two week placement (you choose) and whilst unpaid we can cover the cost of your travel and daily lunch. This is your opportunity to get a better understanding of the industry and add more layers to your CV to help with future job roles.
