About Creative Mentor Network

Creative Mentor Network (CMN) is a charity supporting young people from low-income backgrounds into careers in the creative industries through mentoring.

CMN has a vision to enable young people (16-19) who, crucially, lack access to the networks and insights they need to break into the creative industries. We train mentors and connect them with diverse young talent.

Unlike other organisations operating in this space, CMN is a self-sustaining model, offering clear benefits for creative businesses as well as beneficiaries, incentivising their continued involvement. Through our mentor training course we offer creative industry employees coaching and mentor training.

We are looking for a Treasurer trustee to join our committed board to help steer the next phase of our life as an organisation.


CMN was set up in 2014 by CEO and Founder, Isabel Farchy. The organisation registered as a CIC in early 2017, and recently received charitable status.

A Teach First Ambassador, Isabel set up Creative Mentor Network, based on the insight that young people from less advantaged backgrounds were struggling to access opportunities in the creative industries, whilst the sector was simultaneously struggling to recruit talented young people from diverse backgrounds.

Since its launch in 4 years ago, CMN has worked with close to 400 young people and the same amount of mentors. We are now working with creative organisations including Sony Music, ustwo, Havas, XL Recordings, M&C Saatchi and Soho House to provide our students with access to leading creative industry opportunities.

Key Relationships

Fellow Board Members, Chair of the Board, CEO and the wider senior team.You will be working alongside CMN’s existing 6 trustees with expertise in fundraising, governance, legal, business development and education.

The role of the Treasurer is to support the Board to have a clear picture of the charity’s finances, in order that they are able to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation. The Treasurer works in partnership with the CEO and accountant, supporting them to set and deliver on financial targets.

The role of a Treasurer / finance trustee

This is an important role at this stage of CMN’s life as an organisation. As a small charity, ready to scale, the organisation is currently developing financial projections and setting quarterly targets for it’s growth.

At its core, the role of Treasurer is to support the CEO and board of trustees to develop a financial plan and think strategically about revenue streams.

The role will also include:

Strategic thinking: agree the purpose, vision and values of the organisation and its culture.

Strategy formulation: with the CEO, develop appropriate strategies to deliver financial targets.

Advising: provide advice to the trustee board in terms of financial risk and changes to forecasts

Supporting fundraising initiatives: help with fundraising and bringing donors and supporters to CMN events and acting in an ambassadorial capacity.

Monitoring: Monitor organisational performance and review business results.

Oversight: oversee project budgets. Oversee annual accounts production and submission, including guidance to CMN’s accountant and senior team on specifics relating to formal accounts with access to and oversight of Xero and online banking.

Accountability: ensure the organisation is fully compliant with the law and regulations and that it reports accurately to its stakeholders and regulators.

Mission alignment: We also hope you will be passionate about equal representation in the creative industries, fervent in your desire to give young people access in spite of their personal circumstances.

Experience required

  • We are looking for someone with Financial Director level of experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience sitting on a board
  • Understanding of the specific challenges and opportunities relevant to Creative Mentor Network as a pioneering charity and social business in the creative industries.
  • Personal interest in the challenge developing innovative models of social change.

Time commitment

  • The role will be for an initial three-year term
  • The Treasurer role requires around 2 days per month, mostly remote but with some of the time spent at the Charity’s offices.
  • Board meetings are normally 6 - 8pm at the Charity’s offices
  • Remuneration Like most Trustee roles, this role is offered on a voluntary basis, and reasonable expenses incurred conducting charity business will be reimbursed.
